Fatboy is a modern adaptation of Alfred Jerry's Ubu Roi. Because the acts seemed a little episodic and the characters of Fatboy and Queenie had Punch and Judy qualities, this production three distinct styles where used for the three acts. In act one, a vaudevillian, puppet show concept was put in place making the characters clown like and exaggerated. Act two was set in a Vegas like farce where the characters broke into song while showgirls and sequences seemed to appear from nowhere. The final act was a Star Trek/ Mad Max approach to a post-apocalyptic society where the characters wore cheesy, geometric sci-fi costumes from a different era. Both leads wore fat suits and most of the costumes were constructed or altered by myself. |
