This production of South Pacific was done on a very limited budget and in rep with A Flea in Her Ear.  Because of this the set had to be light, easy to rep in and out and made from found materials in the theatre and city.  In addition, being that the theater was in the middle of Missouri, resources were limited.

The idea was to use the large, scrim-backed, bamboo-like panels which looked like large window shades to move for the various scenes in different positions.  The lighting designer was also able to backlight and bounce off of these panels to create beautiful colors and moods.

Stage right vom functioned as Bali Hai with the stage right one was the military dressing rooms.
