Metal Children follows the journey of a young adult novelist Tobin Falmouth as he travels to a small town who’s citizens force him to defend his art and his life.  As he travels from the reality of New York to the alien landscape of Midlothia, the lights reflect the new foreign atmosphere that envelops the emotional life of the main characters.  Along with infusing the different locales with non-realistic color, such as vivid greens, accents of gold were used to emphasize moments when the spirit of Meredith Miller (the main character of Tobin’s novel) was awakened in the plays characters.

With my set, I wanted an outward projection of Tobin's inner conflict.  This was represented in the mosaic image of a teenage, pregnant Meredith Miller.  This portrait, like the novel, looms over Tobin and eventually changes his life, even after he has moved on from Midlothia.
